I have found that using lists to keep track of the different genres of authors has been useful because there are just so many out there that I have met. I pick a genre or two on a weekend, announce it to my followers and walk through them all retweeting their pinned tweets or something interesting off their feed. I find some interesting people are paying attention to either my feed or that I retweeted them and they retweet me to their followers. Very useful for building readers AND finding friends on twitter. I will say though that the "others" come out in droves.
